Many of us feel overwhelmed by life’s challenges, demands and the weight of our burdens. We’re overworked, exhausted and desperately looking for some relief– and all of that weight makes it way too easy to lose sight of what’s most important in our lives.
The Problem
We are stressed out. We suffer from anxiety. We’re struggling with our relationships. We have financial worries, health concerns, and low self confidence. Meanwhile, we’re over here trying to figure out our life’s purpose, while providing for our families, and trying to squeeze in time for our own self-care. It’s too much!
Our ability to overcome these stresses often requires developing our own coping strategies and self-care routines. A lot of us avoid self-care because we don’t have time, we feel guilty, selfish, we have financial constraints, we’re scared of change, or we blow it off and prioritize others over ourselves…the list goes on.
The Solution
It’s so important to recognize our barriers and work towards overcoming them, because self-care is absolutely vital for our physical and mental well-being. Just incorporating a little more self-compassion and gratitude practices into our daily lives can help to break down these barriers and offer us some much needed relief.
I needed something quick, easy and effective. I tried so many different self care strategies and gimmicks that usually left me frustrated on top of being overwhelmed, anxious and run down.
I started jotting down 3 things I was grateful for every day. I didn’t have a lot of time to spend. I didn’t want to struggle with what to say or write about. So I just wrote 3 things. I kept it simple and made it a brief part of my morning routine.
What happened next was truly amazing– I started to notice a mental shift taking place. Gradually, I felt lighter, happier, not as uptight and stressed out. My mind started to transform. I wasn’t dreading my days. I was sleeping better. I felt more optimistic and less irritable. The glass gradually turned half full instead of half empty.

The crazy thing was, my actual circumstances hadn’t changed…
…But I had.

I found myself cherishing this daily ritual and the sense of peace and clarity it brought to my life. It was quick, easy and effective. It also felt really good to ground myself with a pen and paper, when most of my days are spent on a phone or computer. It was a perfect way to help me disconnect from my phone and reconnect with myself.
